How to get a guy to rethink having a girlfriend?

ok so i told one of my really good friends that I liked him. He said that he liked me too. But, then he said that he doesn't want a girlfriend right now because he said his past girlfriends have been hard to handle. How can I make him want to have a girlfriend?
