What is the best brand for external hard drives?

i looked at western digital elements 2tb and heard good things from them but i heard the one thing that is making me rethink things, which is that it will break a lose all your files. i am looking for a drive that can be a back up and hearing that it can break easily doesn't sound like it has back up qualities, but that was 7 out of 82 reviews (best buy). i am just wondering if it is a good idea to buy this or look at other brands. i looked at top tens and saw seagate but they also have a similar problem. it cannot go over $110 and have at least 1tb.
